Purpose
To unite women of the congregation for the total Mission of the Church and to provide a medium though which we may express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ through Christian Study, Fellowship, and Service.
Who We Are
All women of the congregation are welcome to be part of UCW by coming to one of the two units we have at Erindale. Both meet separately on the 3rd Tuesday afternoon each month (except July and August) at the church, alternating between the McGill Room and either the Sanctuary or the Board Room.
Mary and Martha Circle Leader is Sandra Wiseman
Friends in Faith Co-Leaders are Susan Lyons and Pat Jenkins
We are governed by an Executive elected at our Annual Meeting in February. This body meets monthly to discuss our events, fundraising etc. Our current President is Ann Edge.
What We Do
Besides Study and Fellowship, our unit activities include viewing interesting DVDs, guest speakers, potlucks and restaurant outings. In the fall we collect winter needs such as mitts and gloves for the Open Door Drop-in Centre and make up Christmas gift baskets for the Deacon’s Cupboard Food Bank.
We support many charitable organizations locally – women’s shelters, hospices, drop-in centres for adults and youth, food banks – as well as contributing to our congregation’s needs. Money for this is made by various fundraising efforts – Bake Sale, Garage Sale and smaller projects. We also contribute to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church.
We participate in the World Day of Prayer each March and seek donations for the Fellowship of the Least Coin Ingathering in October – both worldwide organizations which support deserving women’s groups around the globe.
As well as our AGM in February, we hold a Social Evening in June. All women of the congregation are welcome to attend these gatherings, at which we have a guest speaker or musical group.
As part of Horseshoe Falls Region UCW of the United Church, we attend gatherings organized by the Region UCW Council – sometimes in conjunction with neighbouring Region UCWs. Currently two women from Erindale sit on that Council.
Please contact a Unit Leader or our President for any other information, or just come along to a meeting where you will be most welcome.
