Lent in the Community
As part of getting to know our neighbours, increasing our visibility in the community, and learning what God might be up to in Mississauga, this upcoming season of Lent, we’ll be participating in various educational, spiritual, and service events in the city. Here are some to plan for right away.
Tuesday Mornings in Lent: Have coffee w/Rev Brenna at the South Common Community Centre. Casual chat about spiritual topics as we get to know our neighbours. 10am-11 or so. (Bring your own coffee!)
“Invite Your Neighbour” Service at Solel Congregation – Friday, February 23rd 8pm
This special evening service is a way to welcome the Sabbath and learn a bit about the Jewish worship traditions. A time of coffee and refreshments will follow the service. To RSVP, you can either let Rev. Brenna know or contact Solel directly.
The DAM’s Coldest Night Walk – February 24th
The DAM is an agency our United Church Women have been supporting for several years. The DAM (Develop Advocate Mentor) works with at risk youth in the city, including those who are housing insecure to provide assistance with school, employment, and healthy socialization. Their programs are rooted in Christian values and faith believing that all youth are created by God and possess inherent worth. Importantly, they are opening a new location in Cooksville, which may mean opportunities for partnerships in the future.
The DAM is participating in the Coldest Night Walk on the evening of February 24th to raise funds for their initiatives and are inviting local groups and churches to participate. This is a great opportunity for folks of all ages to visibly and physically show our support, and learn more about this important work. There are options to walk 2km, 5km or 10km or you can volunteer in another capacity.
To learn more and register, go to
cnoy.org/location/Mississauga and join Erindale United’s team. Donations can be collected on-line and/or turned in with cash and cheque the night of the event.
