Lenten Study 2017

Lenten Study 2017

Lenten Study Opportunity - "Worship in Light of the Cross"

Join us after worship the Sundays of Lent (excluding March 26) as we study scripture and reflect on how and why we worship. We'll be using Worship in Light of the Cross by John Indermark as our guide. The book is available in both paperback and ebook on Amazon, but talk to Rev. Brenna if you would like the church to order a copy for you.

Sunday March 5 - Meditation and commentary on 'Day 1: If and Then' p 17-18 - What type of invitation do we extend to others to become members of Christ's community? Remembering the verse: Jesus then said to his disciples, "If anyone wishes to be a follower of mine, he must leave self behind; he must take up his cross and come with me" (Matt. 16:24, NEB).- are these words the first ones we should use to greet members gathering for worship in our church? Are they a hurdle to overcome, or a light to show the way? What is the message Jesus gave to the people he ministered to, rather than the directions he gave to his disciples? Jesus proclaimed 'The Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand!' and also fed the multitudes at Tabgha. But in Lent, as we prepare for the story of Easter, and are reminded by Matt. 16:24 that in our walk with Jesus, we are called to give up things of the world, to build up things of the spirit.

Progress of our Lenten Study: Particiants of this study series have been reading the daily meditations of "Worship in the Light of the Cross" and met for Sunday noon discussions on the meditations marking progress through the weeks of Lent. The series concluded on Palm Sunday with the readings for Week Six and Holy Week: (Weekly attendance ~ 12).
