Deacon's Cupboard Food Bank

Deacon's Cupboard Food Bank

It is hard to believe that the Deacon's Cupboard, the food pantry at St. Peter's Anglican Church proudly supported by Erindale United Church, has existed for over 15 years. The Cupboard has now served over 1600 families, all of them our immediate neighbours since residency in one of six nearby postal codes is a requirement.

The EUC congregation has been generous in its support of the pantry, both financially and with the gift of food. Along with the support of a handful of area churches the DC successfully operated throughout the pandemic, providing food vouchers to literally hundreds of food-insecure folks. Now, the DC has returned to normal in-person operations, with at least 100 families using the service each month.

Some changes are being made in the way EUC supports this important outreach initiative. It is no longer possible for church members to make financial donations to DC through EUC. The DC is a member of Food Banks Mississauga and acquires most of its food directly from them. Therefore, those members of EUC who are interested in financially supporting this initiative should make donations directly to Food Banks Mississauga. Their website, www.foodbanksmississauga.ca will provide full details.

EUC's financial support of the DC will, for 2024, be made via an annual contribution from its own fundraising efforts. These monies, along with those raised from the other participating churches, enable DC to commercially purchase foodstuffs which may not be available through the FBM program.

Finally, EUC members who wish to leave non-perishable food in the basket at the doors to the sanctuary are welcome to continue to do so. It is always appreciated.

A huge "thank you" is due to EUC and its members for your strong support over the years. You have made a difference in the lives of more than 1600 neighbourhood families. THANK YOU!
